Aside from irrefutable classics of Fantasy Literature such as Tolkien, Rowling and Martin I grew up with several titans of internationally lesser known German writers that nevertheless could easily hold a candle to the great writers of the English world. These include the German masters of fantasy literature: Wolfgang and Heike Hohlbein, Kai Meyer and Markus Heitz. The one other writer next to Tolkien however that absolutely captivated me was Richard Schwartz and his epic of Askir. After I had read and chewed through the grandmaster's works from a young age this was the second time that a story was so complex and well written that it had captivated me to point were even now - almost 15 years later - the music I listened to while reading the books still throws me back into that world.
